"Quaranportrait No. 11: Leah Aron" By Monique Carboni
When the lock-down began in March 2020 i needed to stay creatively active, so i reached out to all my friends who lived in Brooklyn with front facing windows to see if they would pose/perform for me (they needed to live in Brooklyn so i could walk from my apartment). I desperately missed photographing live theatre so i decided – why not make my own site specific theatre – and that’s how my Quaranportrait series was born! The woman in this photo, Leah Aron, was Quaranportrait No. 11 and i walked 40 minutes (each way!) pushing a giant ladder on a dolly with all my camera equipment strapped to my back. I set up across the street from her building using a 70-200 lens and had her on speaker phone so i could direct her from the street (on top of the ladder!) We had an amazing time creating this image together – it was so nice to collaborate with her and feel somewhat normal during a very scary moment in time.
