"I Painted My Nails" By Hanne Carrington Reay
I Painted My Nails, is part of the series entitled, 'Faceshopping' (from the song by Sophie Xeon). This work allows me to express ideas of feminine beauty and femininity as a trans woman and talk about my experience of transition and hormone replacement therapy. I also discuss facial feminization surgery and ask the question, what does it mean to be a woman in our culture? I believe that the inclusion of trans* voices in the discourse of third wave feminism and queer and gender theory deepens the understanding of each and enriches the experiences of everyone.
