"Inner Vision" By Katie Urban

Inner Vision is interdisciplinary artist Katie Urban’s genesis piece. It is a self-portrait, made using an image of a resin face cast. The cast mask exactly reproduces Urban’s facial features, while the white tint of the resin makes visible her felt identity as an Asian American adopted by Caucasian parents.
 

 The viewer is permitted to look behind Urban’s façade through cut out eyes, revealing a brain modeled out a gelatin— a physical representation of the artist’s mind. This is connected to the mask with wires to transmit the intangible thoughts and feelings elicited by the brain into the physical expressions of the face.
